The United States has shared what can only be seen as good news after revelations that a vaccine for the Ebola virus is set to be tested on humans.
The deadly disease, which causes massive hemorrhaging, has claimed hundreds of lives in West Africa. The vaccine has been previously tested on monkeys and the pre-clinical trials yielded positive results.
Work on the vaccine for humans has been sped up as the infectious disease unit of the United States National Institute of Health is partnering with the Food and Drug Administration to ensure that drug testing begins soon.
According to Dr. Anthony Fauci of the NIH, it is hoped that human trials could begin in September, which is next month.
Ebola is highly contagious and currently incurable and it kills 90% of people who contract it.
