It has become a common factor that Nigerian worker are always under-paid, even the companies that were formally know for paying high wages like Oil companies, Banks, Telecom etc has made life very unbearable for some of their workers, all in the name of "contract staff".
This morning the Contract staff of Shell Nigeria took to the road to demonstrate their anger over an allegation that Shell refused to re-negotiate their contract wedges. From the information getting to us from one of the contract workers (name withheld), that they (the works) has for months now made every effort to get the management of shell to increase their wages, but the effort yielded no result. According to the source they where asked to negotiate with their contractors that shell has no obligation to negotiate with them. But the contractors said they can't do anything unless Shell gives approval.
From what we gathered the average contract staff takes home about N70,000 (seventy thousand Naira), while and average Shell staff takes home about N700,000 (seven hundred thousand Naira) monthly.
