Vanguard reports that the governor, late yesterday hand-picked Hon Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, a member representing Igbo Eze North /Udenu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Ugwanyi who is a Bachelors Degree holder in Emergency and Disaster Management was said to have been chosen by the governor as the person to succeed him come 2015 at a meeting presided by Chime in Enugu last night.
The meeting, we learnt, came after the pro-Jonathan rally at Nnamdi
Azikwe Stadium on Thursday. Various PDP caucus members came together to have a selection at the Government House.
According to a source present at the meeting, Governor Chime moved the motion for the adoption of Ugwuanyi to succeed him in office, while it was seconded by Chief Goodsmark Ugwu prompting the party state Chairman of the PDP, Chief Vita Abba to make his stepping-down position known.
“ Having served the party for several years, I will align myself with the position of the governor and am stepping down for Mr. Ugwuanyi,” Chief Vita Abba declared.
However, many present at the meeting were of the opinion that the politicking was a forced one as they described the governor’s unilateral imposition of a candidate on the party as dictatorial which some of the aspirant think might breed indiscipline.
However, reports have it that this development could further widen the crack within the party though the governor was said to have instructed Mr. Ugwuanyi to embark on a reconciliation tour with other aggrieved members from Enugu-North senatorial district were the party governorship ticket was zoned to.
