Top security sources in the country yesterday, revealed that the Nigerian Army and the Department of States Services (DSS) were seriously sniffing around for arms, ammunition and other dangerous
weapons of mass destruction at the seized Amigo Supermarket and Wonderland Park, both in the heart of Abuja.
The combined team of the Nigerian Army and the State Security Service (SSS) at the weekend, cordoned off the two premises belonging to a Lebanese, Abdul Hassan Taher Falalla, allegedly linked to terrorism.
The takeover of the facilities loved and patronised by Abuja residents, came shortly after the two security services last Thursday, announced the discovery of a cache of dangerous weapons of mass destruction and Hezbollah terrorists cell at a premises in Kano State, also allegedly owned by Falalla.
Daily Sun sources in the two services revealed that security forces were uncomfortable with the security information on the two premises in Abuja, necessitating their quick cordon off and takeover. Apart from sealing up the premises, security sources said there were serious searches going on to seize and neutralise all dangerous weapons that might have been stored there to wage war against Nigeria.
Daily Sun learnt that security forces were not taking chances as they were interested in knowing whatever were underneath the earth in those places. Police operatives have joined the operations as they were sighted conducting stop and search on vehicles along the routes close to the seized premises, to avert possible breach of peace by any group.
Army trucks and SSS vans, all well equipped with cameras and modern gadgets, as well as stern-looking soldiers and SSS operatives with heavy weapons made up the new faces at the two centres.
The two points were usually very busy at weekends, as Abuja top shots often went shopping at Amigo Supermarket and residents also flooded wonderland especially on Sundays to catch fun with their family members and friends.
Daily Sun observed yesterday that people could not move around in those places as the sight of stern-looking personnel sent out warning signals. Neither the Army nor the SSS, could speak much on the nature of the operations there, as the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Brigadier General Ibrahim Attahiru, told Daily Sun that he would not comment on the joint operations.
Deputy Director Press of the SSS Marylin Ogar, was also not available to comment on the nature of operations at the seized venues, as she could not respond to all the calls put up to her by Daily Sun.
However, security sources told Daily Sun that the cordoned off was till further notice in the strategic security interests of Nigeria.
Security forces were said to have spread their drag-nets for the Lebanese, who was allegedly now on the run, even as they were still looking out for other property owned by him.
Equally, Abuja residents have also told Daily Sun that they were already beginning to missing the Amingo Supermarket and Wonderland park.
Some residents who spoke with Daily said that it was very painful that they could not have accesses to shop at the supermarket and catch fun at the park as they usually did.
However, they said that the military actions were expected immediately the learnt that the owner of the premises was alleged by security forces to be having dealings with insurgents groups.
