No vacancy for my female admirers – Joseph Benjamin

Joseph Benjamin is not a greenhorn in the entertainment industry. Apart from being the host of the popular MTN Project Fame, he is also into acting. The tall and handsome dude has become more famous with his latest movie titled, “Mr. and Mrs.” where he acted the stubborn and uncaring husband to  renowned actress Nse Etim-Ekpe. In this interview, Joseph for the first time, talks about  his personal life experiences as an actor:  Excerpt.
Between MTN project fame and acting, which one would you say brought you into limelight?
I have been acting before I started hosting project fame. And I can say that project fame gave me the boost that my career needed. It was a very good platform for me and I leveraged on it. MTN Poject Fame re-launched and re-introduced the brand, Joseph Benjamin into the industry.
What are your greatest achievements so far?
My greatest achievements so far are the awards I have been receiving in recent  times. Also the fact that I have been  putting smiles on the faces of the people, and seeing that they  love me in return.
Has your usual corporate disposition helped in getting more corporate endorsements?
Of course. It is beginning to reward me. Recently, I got another endorsement  from MTN. So, my corporate disposition opens a lot of doors for me.
MTN endorsing you after about two years when your last contract with the company  expired, would you say it came late?
MTN has never done that before now. It is not a brand that endorses faces. This new development just started this year. That is why I am not claiming that I am the only person on that  platform. MTN doesn’t just endorse people without subjecting them  to rigorous test.
It is called Experiential marketing. And that is why it takes  time before  the company  endorses faces they will use in pursuing their marketing goals.

*Joseph
Your role in Mr and Mrs?
It is amazing. Do you know what I tell myself? Sometimes, I tell myself that it is amazing that Mr. and Mrs. has made me more popular than any other movie I have done over the years. I still find it to believe  that everywhere I go to, the movie follows me there. Even when I go into the mall, people call me MR and Mrs. I get positive comments following my role in that movie.
And it’s nice working alongside actress like Nse Etim-Ekpe. It was a pleasurable experience for me and I enjoyed everything about the movie. She was equally humble. I am really very glad that we were able to interpret our roles excellently.  You know, it is one thing for you to have a script and another  to have people who can interpret the roles very well.
Are  you surprised by the sudden break you had in the industry after the role you played in Tango with  Me?
I wouldn’t say I was surprised by the big break I had in the industry after the role I played in Tango with Me, where  I acted alongside Genevieve Nnaji. I knew from the beginning that the film  was going to be a turning point for me because it was a big- budget movie for  Nollywood. I’m grateful to the producer, Mammod Ali-Balogun for believing in me and also, giving me the opportunity to star in the film. It really boosted my acting  career.
So far, people believe you are the hottest in the industry. Does it reflect on your pocket?
That is a compliment I get  everyday from my fans. As for whether it reflects on my pocket or not, it is personal.
Who is the next person you would like to work with in the industry?
I would like to work with Rita Dominic. I would also like to work with my sister from Kogi State, Mercy Johnson, Omotala Jalade and Stella Damasus. And talking about the people I have worked with, I have worked with Nse, Genevieve, Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha , Ini Edo among other top rated actresses.
For  male actors,I would like to work with Pete Edochie, Olu Jacobs and many  others.I have also worked with Desmond Elliot and Justice Esiri.
What is your driving force?
My driving force is to surpass every standard I have set  for myself  at every point in my career. I am also driven by the goal to achieve excellence that always pushes me to go beyond my limit. I always like to push myself to the edge.
Do you see yourself as a sex symbol in the industry?
I do not want to see myself in that angle. I want to be seen as somebody who is thorough, principled and likes maximizing his craft and not as a sex symbol. But such notion goes with the job because everybody will start saying I’m  hot and will think that I’m a sex hunk.
To someone who doesn’t know you, how can you describe yourself?
Well, I am simple and easy going. I keep it simple but, classy.
What makes you fell bad in the industry?
We still have a lot of work to do.I know we have been doing fine but, a lot more can be done in the industry to put things straight.

*Joseph hosting Project Fame with Adora Oleh
We should try to elevate the standard. When I was in London for the Nollywood award , I was thrilled at the way they arranged security for their veterans. I want the industry to emulate that. Sometimes, some of our veterans could fall ill and there will be nothing for them to fall back on. These are some of the things I want them to bring into the industry- a situation where actors and actresses can have value for themselves.
Looking back from where you started and where you are now, what do you have to say?
Thank God for where I am now and I am happy for that. I hope to achieve much more. Looking back, it is a big leap for me because, what I have been able to achieve within this short period of time would have only come by the special grace of God.
Your job goes with a lot of temptations, which of them have you been able to surmount?
Everything is temptation. Even the money that we desire is a big temptation, that is why the Bible says we should not love it so much. Basically, what you are trying to say is how I handle female advances.
I will not shy away from the fact that they are real temptations but actually, I love my female fans. They constitute a lot of my fan base. I relate with them accordingly and also, try as much as possible to draw the line where it’s necessary.
How often do you get strange calls?
I get a  lot of strange calls from my fans. Some will call you and tell you they like you. Some will want to hear your voice. But I wonder how they get my number.
How many friends do you have on your facebook account?
Actually, I have two facebook accounts. The second one is being handled by my publicist.  I do not even know what is happening there. I have a lot of friends there.
What does  marriage mean to you?
Marriage to me is ‘work.’  It is a big journey which can only be accomplished by two people who agree to come together for the journey in love. Love for me is beyond the word, it is an act.
It is a journey and you have to totally understand the second person you want to embark on the journey with. For me, I am not available for now.
So who is the woman in your life now?
Nobody. All I know is that choosing the right person can never be a problem for you when you are ready.
Who is your ideal woman?
For me, an ideal woman is somebody who has the beauty right from inside, not really an outside beauty. I mean one who understands life and who has passion for God. I do not like a woman who is materialistic but she has to look good. I’ m not really carried away by outside beauty but it is an added advantage.
How often do you get passes from your female fans?
As far as you are a man and you are good looking, there must be advances. And I handle such advances very well. It even happens on set but, you have to be very professional in handling them.
If you want to be carried away then, how many will you be carried away with? It is something that happens every time while I’m on set. So, you have to apply professional approach to all these things and that is what I do. I focus on my work basically. And when I’m done, I’m  hardly seen around again.
How will you feel if a woman walks up to you and accuses you of impregnating her?
Well, I will be shocked.

Man forces wife to drink petrol, sets her ablaze ‘…No, she killed herself’

Man forces wife to drink petrol, sets her ablaze ‘…No, she killed herself’
From: OKEY SAMPSON, Aba
Pandemonium broke out in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State at the weekend when a man set his wife ablaze for complaining to her sister-in-law on phone about the husband’s alleged maltreatment . The suspect later reported himself to the police. The man, whose name was given as Ndubuisi Okafor, a trailer driver, who hails from Amawbia, Awka in Anambra State, had allegedly been having quarrels with the wife for sometime now.
Okafor, who owns two trailers, was reported to have severally accused her wife of being too religious which he claimed, prevented him from making good money. He was alleged to have even destroyed the wife’s Bible. A source revealed that two days to the incident, the woman, Chinyere, 40, who hailed from Obingwu Asa in Ukwa West Local Government of Abia State, had complained to the husband that she was sick and needed initially money to buy some drugs, which the husband refused.
This prompted Chinyere to call her sister-in-law on phone to complain about it and other related issues which did not go down well with the man. Okafor, according to the source, later gave the wife money for the drugs and travelled to Port Harcourt. When Okafor came back from his journey the following day he met his wife cooking and went inside the kitchen to confront her over the phone call to his sister. The man did not accept his wife’s explanations. He allegedly pounced on his wife, who had three boys for him and attacked her.
After beating the wife to stupor, Okafor allegedly forced her to drink some litres of fuel, poured some on her body before dumping his wife, into a big rubber container before setting her ablaze. Neighbours who were attracted to the apartment by the woman’s cry for help broke into their flat, put out the fire before rushing the lady to hospital. The first hospital she was taken to rejected her due to the high degree of burns she sustained.
But it was at the Living Word Mission Hospital where she was admitted and given first aid treatment and referred to UNTH, Enugu. It was on their way to UNTH at Osisioma, about two kilometres from the hospital, the woman died. Four hospitals allegedly rejected the body being deposited at their mortuary because it was badly damaged. When Okafor learnt the wife had died, he reported himself to the Timber Police Station where he reportedly told the police it was his wife that set herself ablaze. Relations of the deceased are alleging that the man killed their sister for rituals.
According to the woman’s elder sister, Nkechinyere Nwogu, “before the incident, Okafor had severally told my sister he needed money at all costs and that the wife had been the stumbling block, and he even destroyed her Bible. “Presently, we the family members don’t know where the body of my sister is because four hospitals rejected her body to be deposited in their mortuary due to its very bad state.”
When our correspondent visited 45 Azubuike Street by Uratta /Express junction residence of the couple, the building was deserted by their neighbours over fear of massive arrest by the police. As at Press time, the suspect was still being detained at the Timber Police Station.

Stella Damasus denies dumping acting

It is no longer news that sultry actress turned singer, Stella Damasus, now lives in the capital city of Abuja. The popular actress who exolained reason for her relocation said, “Abuja makes her think properly’’ but sources persist that the main reason she did so was to pursue a number of projects she has been handling of late.
Stella Damasus
Stella has been busy doing other things outside  acting. In August,  she was into some sort of radio tour in Abuja to promote her concert, tagged, The Alternative which held at the Abuja Sheraton Hotel.
She also joined forces with Yinka Lawanson known as Lamboghinny to solicit for relief materials for flood victims in Delta state as well as turning a social motivator, teaching some ladies on how to handle matters involving men, money, sex and the fear of God.
This and many more engagements, including launching her musical career has sparked off speculation that the seasoned actress may have dumped acting for other juicy deals.
In a chat on phone,  the Delta state-born star,  confirmed relocating to Abuja but said the gist about her dumping acting has no truth in it. In her words, “It is not true I have quit  acting because I have three yet to be released movies I have done and I just finished a short film. I am about to start a feature-length movie”.

Helping Your Kids Use Social Networking Websites Safely

As an involved parent, you probably already know that keeping an online journal or a rapidly updating ‘profile page’ on popular social networking sites (MySpace, Bebo, LiveSpaces or Facebook) is common practice amongst teens and preteens. Often, these websites can be viewed by any person with Internet access and this can put your child at risk.

On most social networking websites, children can post profiles that include videos, photos, and personal information such as their address, phone number, birthday, and full names. Kids use these sites to connect with others, whether they’re halfway around the world or right next door. The sites often allow for instant messaging, games, and other communication tools.

Unfortunately, some of the information posted on social networking sites could make your child vulnerable to predators. Keep reading for five great ways to help your child use social networking websites safely.

1. Don’t use full names. If you’re going to allow your child to use social networking sites, have them use a nickname or their first name, but never full names.

2. Monitor your child’s profile. Insist on access to view and monitor your child’s public page. Check for any private personal information, such as addresses or cell numbers, that could pose a security risk to your child.

3. Never allow your child to meet anyone in person who they’ve only met online. Children can be in serious danger if they go to meet people whom they’ve only met through the Internet.

4. Consider setting site restrictions. Most social networking sites allow users to set privacy settings, therefore making their profiles available only to certain approved users. This is a good way to limit access to your child’s information.

5. Remove the page. If your child refuses to abide by your safety rules, consider contacting the web site and having the page removed or investigating the use of Internet filtering tools to block access to the site.

Help, my husband wants to kidnap our children – Housewife

Mrs  Fatimo Ajao pleaded with a Lagos  court  to dissolve her 19-year-old marriage over abandonment. She also alleged that her husband, Jamiu, turned her  into  punching bag and planned to kidnap their children.
The 35- year- old woman of 13, Odunbaku Street, Ogba, told the court that she wanted  the custody of the children.
The mother of three filed for the dissolution on the grounds of what she described as “threat to life, lack of responsibility and absence of love”.
”When I delivered our last baby, my husband promised to foot the naming ceremony  bills, but his phone was switched off until the evening of the ceremony when he reappeared”, Fatima said.
”My husband is not responsible; he came around 7p.m. after we had named the baby and was asking for the child’s name.
”He absconded from the house after our second baby and used to come to the house once in a while, make love to me, then go back to where I don’t know.
”I endured because I didn’t  want to be moving from one man to the other, but now that he threatens to kidnap my children, I want the court to dissolve the marriage.
”My children did not recognise their father after  four  years of abandonment. He came back and when the children did not go to him, he promised to kidnap them”.
She also told the court that her husband had married another wife.
”I want the court to dissolve the marriage and grant me the custody of the children”.
The respondent, Jamiu,  a commercial  vehicle driver, who lives at 573, Adebimpe Street, Ketu, told the court that he still loved his wife.
”I might not be a perfect husband, but I know that I  am better than some husbands who beat their wives”, he said.
”I want my wife to give me a second chance, I would change. I don’t want to divorce her. I am still in love with her.”
The court told the couple to maintain the peace and  adjourned the case to Dec. 5 for further hearing.

Kidnappers float association in Nsukka

Kidnappers float association in Nsukka
From Sun News
Kidnappers in the university town of Nsukka in Enugu state seem not in a hurry to dump their filthy lucre despite the efforts of the state Police Command to run them out of town. Apparently calling the bluff of law enforcement agents and playing the lords of the town and its environs, the hoodlums have formed an association.
The body known as Association of Kidnappers of Nsukka (AKN) made its debut in the town recently. Checks by Sunday Sun reporter revealed that although it operates in secrecy, the group has started pasting notices on building walls ordering residents to pay huge ransoms or get ready to be attacked.
A resident, Ekene Ugwu, said they pasted one of such notices in the neighbourhood around Ibagwa road and people were panicky. He said that some residents including lawyers in the area have notified the police and taken precautionary security measures. But the Enugu State police command has told residents to go about their daily businesses as the police were handling the situation.
The police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu told Sunday Sun on phone that the police had picked the telephone numbers dropped by the author of the letters in various homes, for further investigation. Meanwhile, five persons suspected to be the masterminds of kidnappings in Nsukka zone have been arrested. They were identified as Obinna Nnonyelum a.k.a Biggy, Ikechukwu Jude Ezeah alias Alhaji, Jonas Eke, Kelechi Udagha and Ifeanyi Hyginus Ede. The first suspect, Obinna was allleged to have told his police interrogators that he hails from Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State and that his first criminal outing was the kidnap of a woman from Obollo Afor
. Though he said he could not remember the date of the kidnap, the suspect allegedly told the police that he and those he identified as Sky B who was their driver, Gago, Alhaji and Jonas alias Pajoe, took part in the crime. He said that the N1.5 million paid as ransom was collected at Umuokpu Awka in Anambra state and that he made the phone calls and gave directives until it was collected. Obinna was also said to have confessed that the gang kidnapped Rev. Fr. Chijioke Amoke, a Catholic priest in Nsukka Diocese and a herbalist, Rowland Iyida alias Ojenamuo on November 2, 2011. The herbalist and a police corporal, Sunday Elisha, attached to Ogrute police station, later died while the kidnappers were escaping with their victims. Police sources told Sunday Sun that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
