Investigations into the activities of the co-owner of Amigo Supermarket, Mustapha Fawaz, and three other Lebanese – Abdalah Tahini, Talal Rouda and Khosai Nouridine – arrested in connection with the armoury and Hezbollah terror cell in Bompai, Kano State, have taken an international dimension, according to the State Security Service.
Also, preliminary investigations have established a more serious case of terrorism against the Lebanese suspects.
These revelations emerged in a counter-affidavit filed by the SSS to oppose a suit before an Abuja Federal High Court, in which the Lebanese are challenging their arrest and detention.
The Lebanese joined the SSS, the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice as defendants in the suit in which they demanded N50bn compensation, as well as an order restraining the defendants from extraditing them without following due process.
But in a counter-affidavit filed by the SSS, the security agency opposed the Lebanese application, and instead advanced reasons why it should continue to hold onto the suspects.
It told the court that ongoing investigations into the activities of the Lebanese suspects had taken an international dimension.
There were also indications that the Lebanese might face terrorism-related charges as the SSS in the counter-affidavit, also informed the court that preliminary investigations had established a terrorism case against them.
Part of the counter-affidavit read, “That preliminary investigation has established a more serious case of terrorism.
“That the investigation has assumed an international dimension and sophistication requiring time and advanced expertise to conclude.”
The SSS insisted that the suspects were members of the Hezbollah military wing, an international terrorist organisation.
The security agency further told the court that “some of the suspects are currently at large,” stressing that a premature release of the suspects would jeopardise the investigations.
The counter-affidavit also disclosed that prohibited firearms and other incriminating items were discovered in Fawaz’s residences at Wonderland Amusement Park, Abuja, and 58 Adetokumbo Ademola Street, Wuse 2, Abuja, while the sum of $61,170 was found on Tahini when he was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on his way to Egypt en route Lebanon.
In the same vein, the SSS faulted the Lebanese claim that they were arrested and detained without being taken to court, arguing that the suspects had already been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Karu, a town on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Meanwhile, the suspects were produced before an Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday, in compliance with an order made by the presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, on Monday, June 10, 2013.
Justice Ademola had made the order following an ex parte motion brought by counsel for the Lebanese suspects, Chief Robert Clarke, SAN.
Hearing of the suit in which the suspects asked the court to enforce their fundamental rights was slated for Thursday, but the hearing could not proceed as the counter-affidavit was only served on the Lebanese on Thursday morning.
Since Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson became a mum, she’s been on hiatus focusing on motherhood. But, it seems she won’t be away too long.
While we faithfully await her re-emergence, Africa Magic crew get an interview with her where she dished a little bit about motherhood, family life and her decision to ensure she return to the labour room in the next 12 months. She has started preparing herself already...
We haven’t heard from you since you’ve had a baby, how is motherhood treating you?
Motherhood is great, it’s so magical and special. Taking care of my child and spending time with her is inexplicable and fun.
Any plans to have any more children in the future?
Yes of course, once Purity is a year old, labour room here I come again.
You’ve been abroad for a while, do you have any plans to take over Hollywood?
I don’t live abroad, I’m a Nigerian based in Naija. I only went to the US to have my baby.
There’s a rumour that you have a reality show coming up, is it true?
I love the Hollywood dream too but I hope and wish we could bring Hollywood home to Nigeria but, there’s no reality show for me unless Africa Magic is offering me one. My husband certainly won’t buy into it because he is too private. So what’s a reality show about Mercy Johnson Okojie going to be like without him?
Tell us a bit about who Mercy is when she’s not on our screens?
I am just a girl next door, actually, woman next door. I’m calm, humble, hard working and positive about everything life has to offer.
The Engineering students of the University of Uyo this afternoon went for a peaceful demonstration to the office of the school's Vice Chancellor, Prof Comfort Ekpo, after the VC mandated students to pay N100 for the school bus which used to be free. The school management had shifted most of the Science student courses to the school's permanent site which is about 20 minutes drive from the main campus, and then made the shuttle N100. That means students will have to pay N200 to and fro everyday to the permanent campus for most of their lectures.
This was what the students were protesting this afternoon when things went crazy. The peaceful protest turned violent after security officials at the V.C's office tried to stop the students from gaining access to the Vice Chancellor.
The students allegedly retaliated by throwing stones at the security officials, who then called for police back-up which led to the riot. The police arrived the scene and aggravated the situation by firing shots at the students, killing at least one student. Some say two. Some say three.
Angry students now proceeded to burn down the VC's office, the exams and records building, and a security office. Students have been evacuated from the hostel, and the school has been shut down indefinitely.

Imagine the extent some people go all in a bid to make "too much money" and oppress others. This is one of the reason why those who have made money legitimately are not respected at times as there is the temptation to lump all wealthy people as crooks, one way or the other.
This woman runs a popular restaurant where men and women troop in to eat, not know that they are eating away their destinies, in this Nigeria...
She is the owner of one of the most popular local restaurant (buka) in the Eleme area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. I hear the woman confessed last weekend to using spiritual means to entice customers, as well as take their “destinies.” True life story!
According to eye witnesses, the woman, said to be from Akwa Ibom state, suddenly ran mad while at her restaurant. She started acting bizarre, tore her clothes and started confessing in the presence of customers, her workers and passersby how she used diabolical means for the growth of her business.
According to a source, she said she mixes water used to bathe corpses with her food, as well as water from her private part and menstruation blood. She said she did all these to attract customers whose “destinies” she used for the growth of her business and riches.
The news of her confession spread around town and many of those who have been going to her restaurant to enjoy themselves could not believe their ears. It was sad indeed! Some of her customers (including Okada men) and angry onlookers descended on her but she was rescued by Policemen.
Eating out is cheap but with stories like this one need to be careful.
Who knows what inspired this young actress for this pose? #ashawothinz! See another photo below...
At least he didn’t fall asleep on the “9″ key.
A German labor court ruled on Monday that a bank supervisor was unfairly dismissed for failing to notice that one of her employees had made a multi-million euro mistake on a transaction.
The employee had fallen asleep with his finger on his keyboard while pressing the number two, so instead of transferring €62.40 from a retiree’s bank account, he withdrew €222,222,222.22 ($295 million) instead.
Fortunately for the anonymous retiree, the transaction was spotted by another colleague and reversed. A court in Hesse, Germany, ruled that the supervisor should have been reprimanded, not fired, as her mistake was genuine and she had also checked 811 other documents that day.
Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson is a stunner, and she never seems to disappoint us when it comes to rocking the latest outfit.
In the picture below, the actress posted a picture on her instagram page looking lovely, but if you look hard, you can tell the colour of her underwear.
For a very popular and exposed actress like Yvonne Nelson, we believe this are part of the things she should watch out for before going out in public.
Or do you think she did it intentionally?

“He didn’t make love to me for eight months. After we got married, I was without an issue for five years. Life was unbearable for me throughout this period..I developed high blood pressure in the process, but my husband felt unconcerned. It was hell on earth. I lived in fear, pains and anguish. I kept all these to myself because I didn’t want my home to break."
Those were the words of a 39-year-old woman, Oluwatosin Abiodun, who appeared at the Agege Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Lagos State, to seek the dissolution of her 11-year-old marriage over allegations of battery, infidelity and threat to life.
Oluwatosin, a trader who is resident at No 5, Bemil Street, Ojodu, Lagos State, informed the court that she had never enjoyed her marriage because her husband had made life unbearable for her.
She further added: “The worst was the fact that my husband was dating a neighbour’s wife and even brought her to our matrimonial home where I caught them pants down. He has gone further to marry this woman.
“He was fond of beating me with iron rod. He pampered me when I had our child, but he later went back to his former habit of hitting me... I am tired of the marriage and I want the court to end the union and grant me custody of our child”.
The husband, Mr Olatunji, however failed to appear in court to defend himself. The angry court president, Mr Emmanuel Shokunle, thus adjourned the case for the last time for judgment.
They continue to deny but information at the desk indicates that few Nollywood actress are not having it rosy in their matrimonial home due to the fact that they've not been able to get pregnant and give their husbands children, months and years into their marriage.
However, two actresses stand out from the pack; Ini Edo who got married to Mr Philip about 4years ago and Stephenie Okereke who got married to Mr Linus about 14months ago...
While Ini Edo is in her first marriage, Stephenie Okereke was married to a footballer but it ended in a messy divorce before settling with her new man in a fairy tale wedding. However, there has been no fairy tale kids in their homes thus far and both of them are not known to be pregnant, yet.
Sources say Ini's case is worse as her husband is already under immense pressure from family and friends to go for a divorce and marry a woman who would give him children. As for Stephanie, her husband doesn't understand "the stories" she's telling him about her inability to get pregnant. The guy is not happy!
Both ladies, said to be "wild" back in the day, are now going spiritual and are always saying they are hoping that the babies will come soon. But how long can these men wait?
I think this is a warning to many ladies in the entertainment industry who sleep with different movie producers and directors all in a bid to get enough roles that would "make me popular". Every action comes with a corresponding consequence(s), either today or tomorrow.
What shall it profit you to get popular with your body and end up struggling to get pregnant and give your husband one child while other women get pregnant everyday?
Don't be deceived, nothing just happen. Once a woman starts struggling for years to get pregnant just know that there is problem, whether she wants to admit it or not. A word is enough for the wise!
This was at his birthday bash at Kong Urban night club in SA last night! Banga Lee of Life! Lol
Pokello and Selly almost came to blows during the eagerly anticipated Saturday night party....
The two divas were having a good time on the dance floor, dirty dancing with their fellow Housemates when Selly dumped her drink on the Zimbabwean Housemate. Whether this was intentional or not still remains a mystery.
What is not a mystery though is Pokello's reaction. The Zimbabwean was more than furious and you could tell by her facial expressions how angry she was. Elikem and Cleo stepped in to try to diffuse the situation and to also offer Pokello some tissues to dry herself.
Selly came over to whisper something in Pokello's ear and unfortunately, the Zimbabwean was not having it. She quickly backed away and told her where to get off.Yikes.
