Police arrest pregnant woman for setting husband ablaze

metroThe Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arrested a pregnant woman, Esther Peters for allegedly setting her husband, Anayo Kenneth Peters, ablaze at Ijedemo village, Isheri Osun, at the outskirts of Lagos, on Tuesday morning

DailyPost had gathered that officers from Isheri Police Station responded to a distress call and immediately swung into action, thereby intercepting the pregnant woman when she was trying to escape.

However, the suspect denied being responsible for the crime. However, neighbours said she was always in the habit of fighting with her late husband.

Lagos State Deputy Police spokesman, Mr. Damasus Ozoani confirmed that she had been arrested while the husband’s body has also been deposited in the mortuary, pending police investigation.

Ozoani said, “The police at Isheri Osun got a report that a woman at Ijedemo village had set her husband ablaze. When our men got there, they saw the woman trying to escape. They saw the man burnt to death.

“Immediately, the police arrested the woman and took the body of the man to Yaba General Hospital. The woman alleged that it was the candle light they left in the house that sent the man to his early grave, but neighbours said the man had a quarrel with the wife a day before the incident. We are investigating the matter. The woman would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba for discrete investigation.”

Boston explosion: 8-yr-old victim died waiting to watch dad cross finish line

Boston-Explosion-612x300

Eight-year-old Martin Richard was killed by the first of the explosions that rocked the finish line of the Boston Marathon. He had been there waiting to watch his father Bill cross the line: a rite of passage for scores of Boston youngsters living in the city that hosts one of the world’s oldest races.

According to the Boston Globe, Martin was very nearly saved from the blast after running out to hug his father, but his father kept on going and Martin returned to his mother. As Mr Richard carried on, his son, six-year-old daughter and wife were hit by the first of the blasts that came just 10 seconds and 90m apart. Martin was one of three killed by the twin blasts.

His sister Jane has reportedly lost a leg and his mother Denise is understood to have undergone surgery for a serious head injury. They were among the 170 who were injured in the attack. His older brother, 12-year-old Henry, is not thought to have been hurt in the explosion. According to neighbours, Mr Richard, who runs an environmental testing company, returned to his home in the Dorchester suburb of Boston this morning still in hospital scrubs.

Finally, Mourinho Going Back To Chelsea

The wait is over. After months of speculation, Jose Mourinho has agreed to return to the Chelsea hot-seat next season according to the Daily Star.

And the current Real Madrid manager has already drawn up a list of transfer targets to help the Blues return to the top of the Premier League – headlined by strikers Hulk and Radamel Falcao.

Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho

According to the reports, Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season on a salary that more than matches his current £12 million-a-year package at Madrid. But the 50-year-old realises Chelsea need some extra firepower to compete against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and emerging powerhouse Tottenham.

Mourinho is a big admirer of Hulk while Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao has long been rumoured with a move to London.

The news may just reinforce Romelu Lukaku’s desire to seek another loan move away from the club next season, with the Mirror reporting the teenager, currently plying his trade with West Brom, has asked Blues officials to secure him another stint in the Premier League. And with European football on his mind, a move to the Capital One champions, Swansea, is on the cards.

Top 5 Myths Women (Still) Believe About Men

It's just not true...

Women offer other women an incredible amount of uninformed advice, misinformation and mythology about what motivates men whether they’re single, married, or in a long-term relationship. This was the impetus behind StraightMaleFriend.com. With all due respect, women simply don’t know as much about men as they think they do. And of course us poor guys know zilch about women.

Truth be told, I actually reached out to a handful of guys to guest write for SMF and the general response was, “What? Hell no! I’m not gonna be the one givin’ up the secrets!” So you see?  Your SMF’s are risking permanent expulsion from the “Man Club” by giving up the goods here. But we’ve got a job to do!

To that end, we decided to tackle some fairly persistent man-myths. Now certainly there are exceptions to every rule. And, of course, you’ll have either experienced or have heard anecdotal stories that run contrary to your SMF’s perspectives. That said, here are:

The Top 5 Myths Women STILL Believe About Men

1.He won’t respect you if you have sex on the first date. Truth is, it doesn’t matter if you do the bedroom boogie on date number one or one-hundred. Sex (or the act of withholding it) doesn’t equate to respect. Don’t fool yourself. Each situation is different and each person is different. If you’re making such a personal decision based on not what YOU want, but on what you believe the other person will think, you could be setting yourself up for a major disappointment.

2. Men love the chase. Guys just loooove working up the courage to approach a stranger and ask her out, risking rejection or humiliation. What’s not to enjoy about basically having to qualify for the opportunity to take someone out ? Doesn’t sound stressful at all.

Uhhhh…no.

WOMEN love the chase. And why not? To be in a position where you can basically field offers from potential suitors. On that particular point, guys would switch places any day. It’s not that we love the chase…it’s that we have to chase.

3. A man can’t be friends with a woman without wanting to have sex with her. This one is always hotly debated among the fellas. But the consensus here is that the idea that men and women can’t be friends without sexual tension is pure hogwash. We certainly won’t pretend as if people can’t or don’t possibly find each other attractive, but that’s a far cry from wanting to get all coital. And listen, I surely have friends who I definitely wouldn’t mind taking out for a sexual test drive. On the other hand, I’ve got very close female friends with whom I couldn’t imagine being intimate in that way. So to say what comedian-turned-relationship-guru Steve Harvey said-- that, “The only reason men are just friends with women is because that’s all she’ll allow” is just ignorant and short-sighted.

4.  Guys Prefer Something Left to the imagination. Says who? Ok, do we love the way you look in that low cut top or those form fitting jeans? Yes. Do we love seeing you looking your sexy best as you step out of the shower wrapped in nothing but a towel? You know it. Do we get turned on seeing you get dolled up before a night on the town or maybe seeing you in your sexiest Vicki Secret? Hell yeah, you know we do. You know what we love MORE than that though?

Taking all of that stuff off of you.
Yeah, we like to IMAGINE you in your birthday suit, but we’d PREFER to SEE you in your birthday suit. I mean, come on….why has this ever even been in question?
  5.  Guys are intimidated by independent women. Lots of guys are. But a lot of guys aren’t. This is another electric debate, but we say that this is generally not true; particularly for guys under the age of 40. Under 40 guys are more used to seeing, meeting, knowing, socializing with, and yes even dating powerful, independent women. Many guys wouldn’t have it any other way. Now listen, no worthwhile guy doesn’t care about carrying his own weight or being his own man. And men want to be seen as good “providers.” But that’s a societal “guy thing” and it has less to do with actually feeling intimidated and more to do with feeling the angst of having other people judge them. A self-confident guy feels empowered and proud of his strong, independent partner --not emasculated. So for us to buy into the “guys are afraid of independent women” myth, we’d have to buy that most guys lack self-confidence…and we don’t at all agree with that.

3 Mistakes Women Make in the Bedroom

Who doesn't need to spice up their bedroom routine every once in a while? You love your partner and assume he'll initiate sex, so it's all good, right? Not so fast! Did you ever think about what YOUR role is...what you could be doing to turn up the heat? We did, so we asked renowned sex expert and family therapist Dr. Jane Greer. She says women COMMONLY make THREE MISTAKES in the bedroom:

woman

Mistake #1: Comfy Clothes
I know, ladies, that you want to be in those comfortable nightgowns, those comfortable jammies, that you wear. But, honestly, the quickest turn-off to your partner or spouse are your comfy clothes. So, if you want to spice things up in your love life, shed those comfy clothes and find a ice, hot bra or a nice nighty, something you can be slinky, sexy and comfortable in that will be a TURN-ON to your partner.

Mistake #2: NOT Taking the Lead
Don't wait to get asked to dance, meaning you've got to take the lead. You don't have to wait for your partner to ask you to have sex or make love with them. Get involved, get into bed, take the lead and get your partner into bed with you. You'll both have a lot of fun and enjoy yourselves.

Mistake #3: Criticism
It's to be avoided at all costs. Nothing will turn off your partner faster than you telling him what you DON'T like and what you don't want taking place. On the other hand, what will be a complete arousal and turn-on is letting him know what he CAN do to please you and what will excite you if he does it.

So, tell him what you like, wear those sexy clothes and, most importantly of all, take the lead so that you can have the fun you're looking for!

Serena Williams Poses In Bikini

Serena Williams poses up a storm as she shows off her winning figure in monochrome bikiniGolden girl: Serena adjusts her heavy gold earrings

Her season has already got off to a good start with three wins already.

However, when Serena Williams isn't on the court, she likes to indulge her other passion for fashion.

The World's No.1 was spotted posing up a storm in a high-waisted, monochrome bikini for a photoshoot on Miami Beach, Florida on Monday.

Wearing the high chequered and strip patterned bottoms and a black top, the 31-year-old looked like she was having fun posing on the beach.

She let her hair flow naturally around her shoulders, with her only jewelry being a ring and bulky gold earrings.

As she was requested by the photographer to pull sultry poses, it appeared some of the faces she was making were causing her to laugh.

For many of the shots, she lifted her left leg to define her impressive muscular legs.

Later on, she changed into a figure-hugging yellow mini-dress as she moved back from the beach to the greenery of the sandbanks.

She was also spotted wearing a stunning black maxi dress, which flattered her curves in all the right places.

Although she seemed to be enjoying the shoot, Serena admitted she had lost her voice.

She tweeted: 'Lost my voice. #williamsinvitational2013 I literally cannot speak. Maybe I will be tweeting more...'

Her shoot came a week after she beat Serbia's Jelena Jankovic to the the Family Circle Cup  in Charleston, South Carolina.

However, her victory was not without some controversy with Serena and Jelena arguing during the game.

After Jelena broke serve twice, Serena shouted: 'Honestly, you have a problem,' later adding she wasn't ready for the serves.

Following her win, Serena explained: 'I wasn't ready. I am the most respectful player, other than Venus. I am so respectful to my colleagues.

On March 30, Serena also won the Sony Open in Miami, which came a month after she was forced to pull out of the Dubai Championships after hurting her back.

Serena withdrew just minutes before she was due to play Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli after injuring her lower back.

The tennis star is now the world's oldest women's No.1 since records began in 1975.

How to stop nagging your man

woman nagging boyfriend

AVOID BEING TUNED OUT

Even with the best of intentions, suggestions and reminders for your man can easily turn into a drone that he ignores. No one likes to feel like they're being nagged! Find out how, when and what to bring up with him, and learn how your own happiness affects his.

It’s natural to want the best for my man. I love him, and I want to see him healthy, fulfilling his goals, keeping his commitments and living a good life. Many of his actions affect my own happiness, so it’s fair for me to have a vested interest in what he does. But when do I cross the line from giving him gentle reminders to suddenly becoming that annoying bee in his ear, bossing him around for every single thing he does? Here’s what I’ve learned:

Preferences can be overlooked

Make the distinction between “this is how it has to be” and “this is how I'd like it to be.” I would prefer that he always pick up his clothes off the floor, and I’d like it if he would empty the kitchen sink of dirty dishes before we go to bed, but there’s no moral stand-off for these issues. If I treat everything that I want him to change with the same level of urgency, he starts to hear a whining radio -- and even if he doesn’t mean to, he tunes me out. If I can choose to overlook things that are preferences (clothes on the floor aren’t going to kill me, at least if there are no guests coming over) and bring up only the bigger stuff, he’ll hear me more clearly.

Explain how you feel, not how he’s wrong

A dangerously easy way to make a helpful conversation into a nag-fest is to turn my list of complaints into a list of everything that he’s doing wrong. “You don’t clean up after yourself, I’m always the one who cooks dinner…” Pause for a moment and call up your own list in your head. Now rephrase it by stating how you feel when he does these things. “I feel overwhelmed when I cook dinner every night after work, and it makes me too tired to do anything in the evening. Can we figure out a way to make this less stressful?” Here’s what I’ve learned -- although he won’t be very excited about responding to a bitter complaint, he will jump to rescue you when he sees your emotions and understands your needs. It’s literally in how you say it. “I feel…” instead of “You don’t...”

Let him relax

Timing is huge. My husband can’t have serious conversations when he’s hungry. Dinner is a must before I can spring anything on him. It’s funny to think about, but we have a better chance of a receptive ear if he’s not distracted by fatigue or starvation. This waiting process also can help us prepare as we sift our preferences from our necessities, and find ways to state how we feel about the situation.

Take care of yourself

This one catches me by surprise all the time. If I’m unhappy at work, in life or my other relationships, my bad mood often makes me fixate on what’s wrong in my love life. Discontentment with your man can be a sign of unrest in yourself. Make sure to get your sleep, follow your own passions, and make time to feel beautiful. How you feel truly affects how you see him, because you view everyone through the filter of yourself.

Learning to talk to him without nagging is an endless journey for most of us. But as you try these out, you’ll see how much better he hears the important things you have to share with him.

4 TOP TIPS TO ENJOY YOUR MARRIAGE

Everyone has an opinion on how to make a marriage work, but there are only a few surefire strategies that will truly make an impact. To help you make the most of your marriage and continue to improve and strengthen your relationship, MK has put together four of the most important marriage tips. With these simple but effective relationship tips you should have no trouble making good on that whole "Till death do us part" thing.

Mutual respect

As unromantic as it sounds, having mutual respect for each other will be a huge benefit to your relationship. This means never taking each other for granted or simply expecting certain things of each other without asking or having a discussion around roles. For example, how would you feel if your husband automatically expected you to know where his clean shirts were or assumed that all of the household chores were your domain and your domain only? A good relationship relies on teamwork and sharing responsibilities equally – not leaving one person in charge of everything. Having mutual respect means appreciating each other and showing that appreciation by saying thank you when your partner does something nice for you.

Acceptance

There are no two ways about it; you must accept the man you have married. There is slim to no chance that once you have him settled into a home with a garden and white picket fence that he will transform magically into the prince you've always wanted. A frog is a frog no matter how you dress him up, so if you want your marriage to work, acceptance is key. If you married him, you need to love him for who he is now – not who you hope he will become. Marry for love and nothing more or you run the risk of disappointment down the road, not to mention unnecessary arguments and potential heartache.

Common courtesy

It may seem overly simplistic but remembering to extend small common courtesies to your spouse such as saying please and thank you, calling or texting when you're going to be late, offering to make dinner when the other person is super-stressed, etc. will go a long way in making your marriage work. No one likes to feel underappreciated (or worse, not appreciated at all), so if you both make a point to show appreciation towards each other, it will be much easier to keep your relationship healthy and minimize potential resentment. Resentment often starts when one person feels they pull more weight than the other or that what they do goes unnoticed. Be nicer to each other to avoid this trap.

Compromise

This is probably the most important healthy marriage must-do on our list and something that should be taken very seriously. We all want to be right (it just feels good sometimes), but always needing to have the last word and turn every argument into a full-blown fight can really wear on the relationship. Compromise means coming to a mutually agreeable solution – something you can both live with. You may still think you're right and he's wrong, but it can often be better to try and merge your ideas until you hit on something that satisfies both of you, rather than one of you feeling slighted or angry.

Actress Jennifer Eliogu Chased Out By Husband Over Adultery

This is one very shameful story if it's indeed what has befallen Nolllywood actress, Jennifer Eliogu. The actress usually claims to be a decent girl is now in the middle of a very dirty paternity mess.
From what I hear, actress Jeniffer Eliogu has been chased out of her matrimonial home by her husband and his family due to acts of infidelity. According to one of her husband's siblings, Jennifer, who it seems have been enjoying a secret love affair with a young guy in Nigeria in the absence of her husband, hurriedly and surprisingly showed up in Europe on a visit to her husband.
She started sleeping with her husband but after few weeks she claimed she was pregnant for him...

The husband was happy. But unfortunately for the actress who was trying to play smart, when she delivered the baby, it was discovered that the time difference for pregnancy and delivery did not match the time she claimed she was pregnant. The family of the husband later discovered that the actress was likely pregnant for her lover in Nigeria but quickly moved down to Europe to sleep with her husband with a view to confuse him and make him believe he was responsible for her pregnancy.
On getting this information and also getting details of Jennifer’s escapades with her lover in Nigeria, the husband immediately instructed his siblings to throw Jennifer and her new baby out of the duplex he rented for her in Ajah, Lagos.
From what I hear, actress Jennifer Eliogu is now living with a relative in the Ikeja area of Lagos pending when the real father of the child shows up.

Osaze Odemwingie’s Marriage Linked To His Troubles

Insiders have disclosed to societynowng.com, that the marriage of Nigerian international footballer, Osaze Odemwingie is troubled.
The sources claim family members and friends are of the conviction that ‘marriage is having an adverse effect on his career’.
Before he embraced downward spiral after his marriage – Odemwingie was a darling of football fans both in his country and club.
The West Brom Albion striker got married to his wife, Sarah Fallon on 26 May 2012- after two years of dating.
He engaged authorities of the nation’s football governing body- Nigerian Football Federation and national team coach in a manner that attracted wide spread condemnation and got him sidelined.
The former Locomotive Moscow star went on to engage club authorities in similar manner, to an extreme of single handedly trying to switch to another club. The move earned him wide spread ridicule. It also forced him out of team play and reduced him to the status of ‘training material’.
Information made available to societynowng.com revealed promoters of the campaign ‘marriage is having an adverse effect on him’ have totalled all the incidents and believe there is something about the matrimony making him behave out of line. They have proffered a solution saying that- Osaze should have a rethink about the union…or at least take a temporary break from the union.
Digs revealed the pressure for Osaze to tow the ‘take a break path’ is intense, and troubling the marriage. But the footballer remains unshaken in his commitment to his wife and marital vows.
We’re left in curiosity as to whether the couple will be able to weather the storm of family pressure or not in days to come.

Okonjo-Iweala's Mother Kidnap: Gang Confesses, Mentioned President Jonathan's Name

A former servant at the palace of the traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, where the mother of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was kidnapped has confessed that he gave the kidnappers the necessary information for the dirty job.

He said, “I’m 32 years old and I worked in the palace from 2007 to 2012 after which I left because the pay [my salary] was too little. A friend of mine approached me and told me that I could make a lot of money if I gave kidnappers information on how to get into the palace."

The suspect, Chiejine Onochie, told Punch that although the kidnappers collected N13m as ransom before the 83-year-old Prof. Kamene Okonjo was released last December, he was not given any money and therefore, was not culpable.

“After the operation, I did not get a dime. It was later that I learnt that they had collected N13m as ransom. I felt cheated and I left everything to God.

"I cannot be held for the crime because when police started arresting people, I went to report at the station voluntarily, I was not dragged to the station,” Onochie insisted.
Another suspect, Jideofor Ogbue, aka Marvelous, who claimed to be the leader of the gang, said after gaining entrance into the palace, he and his gang members did not force Okonjo out of the palace but she followed them willingly after they had told her that they were sent by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The 22-year-old said, “It was my friend, Ifeanyi, that informed me about the operation. On the day of the kidnap, we had no difficulty because Onochie had told us that the security around the palace was lax. Although 12 of us were involved in the operation, only eight actually went to the palace.
“We went with three AK47 rifles and a pump-action rifle. When the woman (Okonjo) saw us, she asked who we were and we told her that President Goodluck Jonathan sent us from Abuja to arrest her because her daughter (Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) had embezzled public funds.
“We took her to Kwale and her family paid us N13m as ransom. They packaged the money in polythene bags and dropped it around an expressway in Benin. My share was N2m.”
Another guy, Chukwuma Okoh, who claimed to be a graduate of Accounting and Finance from Ambrose Alli University, said he joined the gang because of unemployment. He said he was not given any money after the operation.
He said, “I’m 31 years old and I graduated in 2007. Since then, it has been hard to get a decent job. It was Onochie that brought the idea of kidnapping Okonjo-Iweala’s mother. However, as God is my witness, I did not receive a dime from the gang after the operation.”
The Lagos Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, while parading the suspects, said they were arrested in different states comprising Edo, Enugu, Delta and Anambra.

Child prostitutes from 10 to 17 years paid 2 Cedis in Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana

clip_image002

Child prostitution is flourishing at Sekondi landing beaches and other suburbs of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region.
The Social Services and Gender Sub-Committee of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, at a meeting in Sekondi, noted that minors aged between 10 and 17 year stake their pimps to small kiosks at the beaches and pay GHc2.00 before engaging in sexual escapades with their patrons.
It cited NKotompo, Sekondi, New Takoradi and European Town in the metropolis as areas well-known for such immoral activities.
The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. John Davis, who is also the Assembly Member for Anaji West Electoral Area, expressed worry over the trend, and said the Committee would liaise with the various chief fishermen, assembly members and queen-mothers of the Fishmongers Association in those areas to stop the practice.
He also lamented that some children of school-going-age in coastal communities in themetropolis were reported to have abandoned the classroom for fishing.
Madam Josephine Cobbina, Assemble Member of Bankyease Electoral Area, near Takoradi, suggested that minors involved in fishing and prostitution should be educated on the ramifications of their actions.
